To herald the start of the new Teaching Period we are bringing you a series of the best study spots from across Australia. We kick-start our series with Melbourne.
If you have a project to start or an essay to write but you find yourself lacking enthusiasm and inspiration, you may find the motivation you need away from your usual study spot.
A change of scenery can do wonders for your mood. Look around you – there are loads of libraries, cafes and public spaces that offer free wifi access and are conducive to study. So get up, get out and let a new environment reignite your passion.
Here are a few ideas to get your started…
Surround yourself with books
Most public libraries offer quiet study pods, so bring your own laptop or device, or make an appointment at one of the communal computers. The State Library of Victoria and City Library(which has six branches located in the central city, Carlton, Docklands, East Melbourne, North Melbourne and Southbank) are ideal options within town. Otherwise, look up your council website for the nearest local library.
Be at one with the arts
If you’re looking for creative inspiration, you may find it by surrounding yourself with beautiful artwork and fascinating exhibits. Try the Melbourne Museum or NGV International(it will be worth the small entry fee!) A wander through a fascinating exhibit may be just what you need to get your creative juices flowing.
Explore the great outdoors
Get closer to nature, with public spaces including Federation Square, Flinders St Station and the Queen Victoria Market offering free wifi. Find a comfortable spot, have your headphones handy and log on!
Get your caffeine fix
Most cafés around town offer free wifi if you make a purchase. Find a cozy corner or join a shared table and soak up the atmosphere (and a delicious meal or bevvie!). Great in-town options include 1000 £ Bend, Mr Tulk and Time Out Café.
Remember, no matter where you choose to study Swinburne Online offers support services at any hour of the day.
